Hello, We are Ms. D'Auria and Ms. Cumella and we will be your child's reading teacher this year. Your child will have a total of 10 periods of ELA (Reading and Writing). We have collected two notebooks and one folder for our class. One notebook will be used for reading notes and the other notebook will be used for Writing About Reading responses and other homework. Our goal is to minimize the amount of supplies that go home every night so we will try to keep the notebooks in our room as much as possible.
Homework: Your child's homework every night is to read a leveled book. We will be telling students their reading level and helping them pick a fiction book for this unit. If your child wants to read a book they purchased, please make sure it is on their reading level. As they read every night, it is their responsibility to take notes while thinking about fiction goals. When they come to class, they will be using their notes to write a reading response so it is very important that notes are clear and useful for comprehension.
Please make sure that your child works on reading/jotting for at least 20 minutes total every night.
